A festival that does not exhibit the Orient but questions it. The title is the programme — and a contradiction on purpose.
01 — What it is about
DisORIENTation asks the question that is asked too rarely in world music: who is orienting whom here, exactly? A festival title that breaks with expectation instead of serving it — and a programme that places contemporary positions from the Middle East and North Africa next to electronic and European work.
Festivals like this are the hardest and the most rewarding: they need a venue that comes along, an audience you can trust with something, and a programme director who knows the difference between provocation and stance.
