01 — What it is about
Café Global is the series in which everything came together: an evening format at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt that I founded in 1990 and ran for years. No gala, no museum concert — an evening on which music from the Maghreb, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe happens in the same room, and the audience stays seated because it gets curious.
The principle behind it is still the principle of my work: not „world music“ as a catch-all box, but individual musicians with a name, an origin and a story — placed side by side so you can hear what connects them.
