The Journey to Tunisia

Some things cannot be brought to Berlin. Then you travel there.

Bright North African courtyard with horseshoe arches, tiled floor and a lute leaning against a pillar.

Generated mood images — not photographs of the programmes or people named here.

The Journey to Tunisia is the counterpart to everything else I do: not a programme that brings the world onto a Berlin stage, but a group that travels to the country the music comes from. I was born in Tunisia in 1954 and have lived in Berlin since 1975 — that road runs in both directions.

Such a journey is curated like a festival: it has a dramaturgy, high points, room to breathe, and it lives off contacts grown over decades — musicians, workshops, houses, people who unlock a room because they know you.

For institutions, associations and groups who want more than sightseeing, I build journeys as a programme: with concerts, encounters, context — and with someone along who speaks the language.

My role

  • Concept and dramaturgy of the journey as a programme, not a tour
  • Access to musicians and places through long-grown contacts
  • Accompaniment, hosting and translation on site
  • Coordination with partners in Tunisia and in Germany

Next step

Shall we build something like this together?

Tell me in three steps what you have in mind — format, setting, date. I get back to you personally.
