Heimatklänge achieved something in Berlin that cannot be decreed: it turned a niche term into a summer evening you simply go to.
An open-air festival running over several weeks is a different task from a single concert evening. You do not curate one high point but a curve: weeks that build on each other, an audience that comes back, and evenings that hold even in the rain.
My work on programmes of this size is music and logistics in equal parts. Which ensemble suits which slot? Who needs how much lead time for visas? Which line-up works under open sky and which only indoors? Where does an evening emerge that is more than the sum of its acts?
For festival directors I am useful at exactly that point: at the question of how a wish list becomes a schedule that works.
